Our dense phase pneumatic conveyors are suitable for transporting various types of materials, which require low-speed movement to maintain their integrity:

Dense-phase pneumatic conveying allows the integrity of the transported product to be preserved by moving it at low speed, but at the same time applying the necessary force to make it advance along the pipeline.

Operating principle of dense phase pneumatic conveying

Dense-phase pneumatic conveying, unlike fluid-phase conveying, moves materials at a low speed, approximately 10 meters per second, and the vacuum generated within the system is particularly high, approximately 800 mbar. This performance allows materials to be transported not in suspension, but slowly along the pipeline, in contact with it. The conveying methods can be divided into three sub-modes, which are chosen based on the material being conveyed.

How dense phase transport works

Alternate mode

For conveying materials that tend to agglomerate.

In the alternating dense-phase pneumatic conveying mode, air is injected alternately with material, advancing the latter in segments separated by air.

Seeds, plastic granules, or pellets are materials of roughly the same size and tend to occupy the entire cross-section of the conveying tube. Therefore, most of the air mass drags the blockage, while the air passing through the interstices of the materials creates a constant flow of advancement.

Continuous mode

To transport fine powders with a high specific weight.

In the continuous dense-phase pneumatic conveying mode, a small amount of material is fed into the pipe at a time, so that the material does not fill the entire pipe section, but rather advances by flowing along the lower part of the pipe itself.

Visually, a series of waves can be seen steadily advancing toward their destination.



Intermittent mode

For conveying powders that tend to coagulate.

The intermittent dense-phase pneumatic conveying mode prevents the material from coagulating, which would cause blockage of the pipeline. A second, smaller-diameter pipe is inserted into the main pipeline, which injects air into the main pipeline at programmed intervals to maintain high material flow. This prevents compaction of the material and consequent blockage of the pipeline.

Dense phase transport in suction

The dense-phase suction conveying mode is used to convey fragile , partially abrasive, but also liquid or viscous materials at low speed . For example, pet food or detergents require low-speed, high-vacuum conveying because the material must necessarily be transported in a "package" due to its viscous nature.

Dense phase transport under pressure

In the dense-phase pressurized conveying mode, heavy and moist materials are easily pushed along the pipes by compressed air injectors, preventing them from clogging. This system can be started with progressive power to prevent pipe wear and the fragmentation of more brittle materials. Products requiring this mode include rice, hazelnuts, sweets, cocoa beans, etc.
